The position will become vacant on 1 July 2027. The selection process will take place between May and December 2026. This call for applications is directed at a dynamic senior inland navigation expert with experience in leadership.

Works under the direction of the Director-General and acts on his or her behalf in matters within his or her area of responsibility when the Director-General is absent
Directs the work of the Counsellors for Nautical Matters, for Hydrotechnical and Hydrometeorological Matters, for Technical Matters relating to Inland Navigation Vessels, for Transport, Exploitation, Port Development, and Environmental Matters, for Professional Qualifications, and for Vessel Crew Qualifications, and Measures to Counter the Qualified Personnel Shortage in Danube Navigation
Directs the work of the (senior) technical experts for Information Technologies in Inland Navigation, for Effects of Climate Change on Danube Navigation, and for Economic Analysis & Statistics
Organizes and coordinates their activity with the objective of timely and high-quality fulfilment of the tasks and the Work Plan, including those related to the preparation and conduct of working groups and expert meetings, as well as the preparation of their result reports
Advises the Commission and supports its work
Represents the Secretariat of the Commission and maintains continuous contact with authorities of the Member States, international organizations, and sector stakeholders
Prepares proposals, information materials, reports, and publications
University degree (master’s or doctorate) in a technical field relevant to inland navigation
In-depth knowledge of Danube navigation, including its international aspects
Extensive professional experience in the technical areas of activity of the organisation and related to relevant international organizations
High level of self-motivation, strong leadership skills to manage daily operations, supervise staff, and foster a positive, productive organizational culture
Excellent verbal and written communication as well as computer skills
Good command of written and spoken English and knowledge of one of the official languages of the Danube Commission is obligatory
Work in an international environment with the diplomatic privileges of an international organisation
The term of office runs from 1 July 2027 to 30 June 2031 and may be extended for an additional four years
