Internally this role sits in our Solution Delivery Management team, and the contractual title is Solution Delivery Manager.
As a technical owner, you are responsible for how biometric solutions are delivered to customers in areas such as identity document and passport issuance, national elections, criminal investigation, border crossings and e-gates, and identity verification for banks and enterprises. You design the solution, write migration code and tooling that moves real data into it, prove it works, and explain it to the people who have to approve it.
This is a hands-on engineering role with a customer in the room. Your work involves schemas, APIs, logs and analyses, as well as making technical work understandable to non-technical stakeholders. You work across solution clusters, research and development, product, support and pre-sales, and act as the first contact for a customer's technical lead.
You start broadly and then specialise. In your first months you get familiar with all solution clusters. Around month three you choose one with your manager and that cluster's solution owner, and by the end of your first year you become the delivery-side technical reference for the solutions in it.
This is a medior to senior position. Where you land depends on what you bring rather than on years of experience. The coding is an important part of the role at all levels: you will write efficient code for data migrations, build custom tools, debug intricate integration problems and think algorithmically about performance. You get real autonomy with a support framework around it.
You are an engineer who likes customers. You are comfortable being handed an unclear problem, a half-documented third-party system and a deadline, and working out what is really being asked before designing anything. You write code to solve your own problems, including migrations, tooling and automation, and you can read somebody else's code and schema without being walked through them. You would rather write the decision down than explain it three times.
Short business trips to customers are required; there is no fixed travel quota.
You may ask for additional conversations with members of the team.
