Barista - Full Time

Who You Are

First and foremost, you are a good barista or someone who is serious about becoming one.

You care about coffee and understand that great coffee comes from consistency, practice and attention to detail. At the same time, you enjoy hospitality in a broader sense. You like talking to people, creating a welcoming atmosphere and being part of a place where customers eventually become regulars.

You are comfortable explaining a coffee, recommending a book or helping someone choose one of the products without turning every conversation into a sales pitch. You are naturally curious and interested in the things around you.

You notice when something needs to be cleaned, restocked, moved or improved and you do not always wait for someone else to tell you. You can work independently, but you also understand that a great café depends on a strong team.

You stay calm when things get busy, solve problems as they come and treat people with kindness and respect.

You Care About Great Coffee

• Coffee is the most important technical part of this role.
• You care about consistency in every drink you prepare.
• You understand, or want to deeply understand, espresso extraction, grinder adjustment and milk preparation.
• You are interested in the coffee we serve, where it comes from and what makes it taste the way it does.
• You are willing to practise and continuously improve your skills.
• You care about presentation as much as taste.
• You treat coffee, ingredients and equipment with respect and avoid unnecessary waste.

You Create a Place People Want to Return To

• You make customers feel welcome without being intrusive.
• You enjoy getting to know regular customers.
• You create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
• You understand that lighting, music, cleanliness, presentation and small details all influence how a place feels.
• You care about the café even during quieter moments — keeping the space inviting rather than simply waiting for the next order.
• You help create a place where people are comfortable spending time.

You Are Comfortable With Coffee, Books and Products

The café will also feature a small, carefully chosen selection of products we believe in. This may include books, outdoor and lifestyle products, accessories and selected bestsellers.

Your main responsibility remains the café, but you should also be comfortable helping customers with these products when needed. You are willing to learn about the products we carry, can naturally recommend something when a customer asks, help keep shelves and displays organised and accurately handle occasional retail sales.

You understand that we would rather have a few great products with a story than fill the space with things simply to sell them.

You Care About Community

We want the café to become a small community space rather than just another place serving coffee. Over time, the café may host talks, book launches, small events, workshops, outdoor community meet-ups and other gatherings.

You enjoy being around people and helping bring them together. You are happy to support events taking place in the café, are open to ideas and may bring your own. You understand the value of building long-term relationships with customers and the local community.

You help create an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone who walks through the door.

You Are Action-Oriented and Take Initiative

• You see what needs to be done and take care of it.
• You help keep the café clean, organised and ready for customers.
• You take responsibility for your part of the daily operation.
• You support your colleagues when things get busy.
• You look for practical ways to improve workflow and customer experience.
• You are comfortable taking responsibility rather than waiting for detailed instructions for every task.

You Value Quality in All That You Do

• You care about the quality and presentation of every drink.
• You maintain a clean and organised workstation.
• You follow recipes and procedures consistently.
• You handle equipment carefully and responsibly.
• You pay attention to the presentation of the whole space, not only the coffee bar.
• You understand that the smallest details often make the biggest difference.

You Are a Life-Long Learner and Teacher

• You participate in all required coffee and product training.
• You want to understand not only how something is done, but also why.
• You aim to learn something new every day.
• You share knowledge with colleagues.
• You welcome feedback and use it to improve.
• You remain curious about coffee, food, books, products and the wider culture around the café.

You Care About the World Around You

The organisation has always tried to operate differently. We care about the environment, the people we work with and the communities around us. The same approach will be part of the café. We want to minimise unnecessary waste, choose our suppliers and products carefully and make thoughtful decisions about how the café operates.

You understand and support the company's mission and values and represent them naturally in your everyday work.

Physical Requirements

• Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Comfortable working behind a busy café bar.
• Able to reach, bend, squat and regularly carry café supplies and products.
• Able to lift and move boxes, coffee supplies and other equipment when required.

Schedule

We are looking for two people to form the core team of the café. You will have real responsibility for how the café operates and develops, particularly when it comes to coffee, hospitality and everyday customer experience.

The café will operate on a rotating schedule designed to give both employees predictable working hours and a healthy work-life balance. Weekend availability will be required on selected weekends each month. The exact schedule will be agreed with the successful candidates based on the café's opening hours.

Employee Conduct

Every member of the team contributes to the atmosphere of the place. We expect cooperative, respectful and professional interactions with colleagues, customers, suppliers and everyone we work with.

We value kindness, responsibility, openness and treating people fairly. We want people to enjoy coming to work just as much as we want customers to enjoy coming through our door.

Employee Perks and Benefits

• Employee discounts on products.
• Professional coffee and barista training.
• Opportunity to develop advanced coffee skills.
• A friendly and independent working environment.
• The opportunity to help shape the café from its very beginning.
• Participation in events and environmental initiatives.
• The opportunity to contribute ideas for coffee, products, books, events and the overall direction of the café.
• A workplace where initiative and personal responsibility are genuinely welcomed.
• Benefits that may include environmental internships, employee discounts and many more.
