Job description, responsibilities and duties

Develops advanced instruments for laser spectroscopy. We are looking for a Technical Support Engineer to help customers install, operate, and maintain our spectroscopic and laser systems.

This role combines hands-on technical work, troubleshooting, customer training, and international travel. You will receive training on the instruments and progressively take responsibility for supporting a broader range of systems.

Your responsibilities

• Provide technical support by email, phone, video conference, and on-site visits.
• Diagnose and resolve optical, electronic, mechanical, and software issues.
• Install, configure, calibrate, and test instruments at customer sites.
• Train customers in instrument operation and maintenance.
• Coordinate service and installation visits with colleagues across international offices.
• Work with engineering and R&D teams to resolve complex issues and improve products.
• Prepare service reports, technical documentation, and support records.
• Assist with system testing and final quality checks before shipment.

What we are looking for

• A university degree in chemistry, physics, optics, electronics, engineering, or a related field.
• Strong practical troubleshooting skills and an interest in scientific instruments.
• A methodical approach, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
• Clear communication skills and a patient, helpful approach to customers.
• Good spoken and written English.
• Willingness to travel internationally for approximately 25–50% of working time, depending on service and installation schedules.
• Experience with spectroscopy, lasers, optical alignment, or laboratory instrumentation is an advantage. Relevant hands-on academic laboratory experience is welcome.
